The United States of America is constitutional federal republic comprising fifty states and a federal district, as well as several territories, or insular areas, around the Caribbean and pacific. The country is situated mostly in central North America, where it’s forty-eight contiguous states and Washington, D.C., the capital district. The Area of USA is around 3.79 million square miles (9.83 million km2) and with more than 300 million people, the United States is the third or fourth largest country by total area and third largest by land area and by population. The U.S. economy is the largest national economy in the world, with a nominal 2006 gross domestic product (GDP) of more than US$ 13 trillion (over 19% of the world total based on purchasing power parity). The United States is one of the world’s most ethnically diverse nations, the product of large scale immigration from many countries. But the beauty of USA lies in its multiculturism, USA is the land of education. People around the globe have made USA their home and contributed to its prosperity.
GRADUATE LEVEL This level leads to Master's and Doctoral degrees. Many Master's courses take one year to complete, although the popular Master of Business Administration (MBA) takes two years. Doctoral degrees (PhDs) take three or more years to attain, and can take international students up to six years to finish. PhD students have to conduct first-hand research and write an in-depth thesis on a chosen subject. There is very little aid available for international students at undergraduate level in the USA. However, a few individual private schools may have funds available for particularly able international students.
Enquiries should be addressed to the International Admissions Office at each school to find out if there are funds available.
More assistance is available for postgraduate students, often in the form of teaching or research assistantships.
Contact individual universities or visit the international education financial assistance website, www.iefa.com , for more information on funding your studies in the USA.
Assisted university study in the US can be achieved through The Fulbright Program, a university exchange system that has been running for nearly fifty years. Many countries have their own Fullbright Commission, otherwise contact your US Embassy.

An International student going to USA can work 20hrs a week on-campus during semester and full-time during holidays. Part time jobs on campus are easy to get with prior planning and you can earn around $650 a month.
If you work full time during your holidays you can earn around $2000 a month. The approximate monthly living expenses are about $600/800 (includes accommodation as well as other daily expenses). However, the expenses are different for different people depending on the lifestyles and the location and this is just a rough idea.
The key here is to share apartments/houses so that you save on the utilities, fixed charge portion of phone and to some extent on groceries.
